About Barry

I created to help dentists to market and sell their very best dentistry.  I graduated the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1973.  I have spent the last thirty six years in private practice in Cherry Hill,  New Jersey, a suburb of Philadelphia.

I consider myself a very typical dentist who has tried to do the very best for my patients, while providing a great lifestyle for myself and my family.  This has not been an easy task.  In speaking with dentists, coaching dentists, and teaching dentists at the Pankey Institute in Key Biscayne Florida, I found the major stumbling block for most dentists centered around the marketing of their practice and selling dentistry to their patients.

In 2003 I wrote a book titled, The Art of the Examination.  It was well received by the dental community.  The book describes a “selling” process that takes the patients from the initial phone call through case presentation…it also describes a philosophy of practice for comprehensive care.

Watch for my upcoming book The Art of Case Presentation which will be published in Spring 2013.

Over the years many dentists have asked that I extend the teaching in that book.  This blog, and my other blog is my attempt at creating community around these very important concepts.  The TAOof is more about philosophy of practice and how to create well-being in dental practice. will have weekly posts that will help dentists with communication, sales, marketing, online marketing, storytelling, persuasion, photography, influence, telephone technique, motivational interviewing, examination philosophy and technique and anything other topics that our subscribers suggest.
